MKV to MPG Conversion FAQ
How do I convert an MKV file to MPG?
+
Upload your MKV file using the picker above and the converter detects the source type and runs the MKV → MPG pipeline. The result downloads automatically when conversion completes; no account needed for one-off conversions.
What happens to the subtitle tracks in my MKV file?
+
They cannot stay selectable, because MPG has no soft-subtitle stream to hold them. There are two ways out: burn them into the video during conversion, which makes them permanent and unstyleable, or export them as a separate .srt alongside the MPG for the player to load. The converter tells you which it did rather than dropping them silently. MPG inherits every MPEG-2 limitation — heavy bitrate, interlacing, no soft subtitles — plus the confusion of two extensions for one format.
Why would I convert MKV to an older format like MPG?
+
Because a lot of hardware never learned anything newer and never will. DVD players, in-car head units, camcorder playback modes, industrial displays and plenty of broadcast ingest equipment accept MPG and nothing else. The conversion is a deliberate step down in efficiency, bought in exchange for working on a device that has no other option. MPG is the extension DVD authoring software, older camcorders and broadcast ingest tools recognise, so it stays useful for those pipelines.
Is the MKV to MPG converter free?
+
Yes — basic MKV → MPG conversion is free with no registration. Premium adds higher per-file size limits, more parallel batch workers, and removes ads.
How big an MKV file can I convert to MPG?
+
Free accounts: up to 100 MB per MKV file. Premium: typically 1 GB per file, depending on the MKV source type. Very large files are split into chunks server-side when the MPG format allows.
Will conversion change the content of my MKV?
+
Conversion preserves all information that both MKV and MPG can represent. Format-specific features that the MPG format doesn't support (e.g. vector data in raster output, formulas in plain-text output) are rasterized or stripped — see the format-specific notes on the result page.
Can I convert many MKV files to MPG at once?
+
Yes — drop multiple MKV files into the upload zone and they are queued in parallel. Premium has more parallel workers; on a 50-file batch this is the difference between minutes and seconds.
Does the MKV to MPG converter work on phones and tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.
Which browsers does the MKV to MPG converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses standard `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependencies — so even older browsers work.
Are my MKV files kept private?
+
Yes — uploaded MKV files are processed in isolated workers and deleted within minutes. We never view, retain, or share content. See /privacy/ for the data-retention window.
What if the MPG download doesn't start automatically?
+
Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network fails mid-download, you can re-trigger from the result page without re-uploading the MKV.
How long does MKV to MPG conversion take?
+
Typically seconds for small files, a minute or two for files near the size cap. Server-side pipeline runs on dedicated workers — your laptop CPU isn't the bottleneck.
