How do I convert GIF to TIFF without losing image quality?

My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because TIFF is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. TIFF’s flexibility is its weakness — two TIFFs can be structured so differently that software reading one fails on the other — and files are large.
What about EXIF metadata when converting GIF to TIFF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the TIFF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

How small can the TIFF file get without visible artifacts?

For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source GIF with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my GIF files private during conversion?

Why is my converted TIFF file bigger / smaller than I expected?

A GIF file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless TIFF (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless GIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
