How do I convert GIF to PNG without losing image quality?

My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because PNG is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
What about EXIF metadata when converting GIF to PNG?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PNG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of GIF files to PNG at once?

What resolution and dimensions will my PNG file have?

Default behaviour is 1:1 — your PNG output has the same pixel dimensions as the source GIF. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the PNG file get without visible artifacts?

For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source GIF with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my GIF files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded GIF files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted PNG file bigger / smaller than I expected?

A GIF file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless PNG (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless GIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
