PNG to DOCX Conversion FAQ

How do I convert a PNG file to DOCX?
+
Upload your PNG file using the picker above and the converter detects the source type and runs the PNG → DOCX pipeline. The result downloads automatically when conversion completes; no account needed for one-off conversions.
That is the main thing you gain. A PNG has fixed pages, so a small screen either shrinks the whole page or forces horizontal scrolling. The DOCX stores text as text, so the reader re-wraps it to any screen width and font size. Multi-column layouts and large tables are where reflow struggles — those are the parts worth checking after conversion. DOCX is inspectable, diffable and readable by Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages and every modern word processor.
Yes — that is the point of converting out of PNG. The output opens as a real document with live paragraphs, styles and tables rather than a frozen page image, so you can edit it directly instead of retyping. Heavily designed source layouts convert less cleanly than plain prose, so expect to tidy spacing on anything built on a complex grid.
Then the conversion produces a picture of the text rather than the text itself, and searching it finds nothing. Run /pdf-ocr/ to add a recognised text layer first; optical character recognition turns the scanned pixels into selectable, searchable characters that the conversion can then carry through properly.
They are composited against the page, which is white by default, so a transparent background becomes a white one. If the image is meant to sit on a coloured page, set the matte colour before converting rather than trying to fix it afterwards in the document.
A ZIP archive of XML parts, together with the images and fonts those parts refer to. That is why one barely shrinks when it is archived, why a damaged one can sometimes be partly recovered instead of being a total loss, and why software that is not the original application can open it at all — the layout was published rather than reverse-engineered. It is also why the extension matters more than it looks: rename it and the tools that recognise it by name stop opening it, though not a byte inside has changed. DOCX is Office Open XML, the format Word has produced by default since 2007 and an ISO standard since 2008.
Keep them at their native pixel size. A PNG is what a screen capture is saved as, and screen text is drawn one pixel thin — scale it up or down inside the document and the letterforms blur immediately, because there is no spare detail to resample from. Place the image at full size and change the page zoom instead; if it genuinely has to be smaller, re-capture the window at a smaller size rather than shrinking the picture afterwards. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Yes — basic PNG → DOCX conversion is free with no registration. Premium adds higher per-file size limits, more parallel batch workers, and removes ads.
Free accounts: up to 100 MB per PNG file. Premium: typically 1 GB per file, depending on the PNG source type. Very large files are split into chunks server-side when the DOCX format allows.
Conversion preserves all information that both PNG and DOCX can represent. Format-specific features that the DOCX format doesn't support (e.g. vector data in raster output, formulas in plain-text output) are rasterized or stripped — see the format-specific notes on the result page.
Yes — drop multiple PNG files into the upload zone and they are queued in parallel. Premium has more parallel workers; on a 50-file batch this is the difference between minutes and seconds.
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.

PNG

PNG files include transparency and use lossless compression, making them ideal for graphics, logos, and screenshots.

DOCX

DOCX is the modern, XML-based Word format offering smaller file sizes and better universality.
