ICO to JPG Conversion FAQ
How do I convert ICO to JPG without losing image quality?
+
Upload your ICO file, then our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for JPG output. For lossless formats (PNG, TIFF, BMP) we preserve every pixel; for lossy formats (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
How much quality will I lose going from ICO to JPG?
+
At quality 80-85 the difference is invisible at normal viewing distance and the file typically drops by 60-80%. The catch is that it is one-way: re-saving the JPG repeatedly compounds the artefacts each time. Keep the ICO as the master and regenerate the JPG from it whenever you need a new size. ICO lets one file serve a taskbar, a file listing, a desktop shortcut and a browser tab without any of them looking resampled. JPG is lossy: the image is transformed with a DCT, quantised, and entropy-coded, with a quality knob controlling how much is discarded.
What about EXIF metadata when converting ICO to JPG?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JPG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of ICO files to JPG at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution and dimensions will my JPG file have?
+
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your JPG output has the same pixel dimensions as the source ICO. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the JPG file get without visible artifacts?
+
For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source ICO with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my ICO files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded ICO files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted JPG file bigger / smaller than I expected?
+
An ICO file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless JPG (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless ICO often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
