JFIF to WebP Conversion FAQ
How do I convert JFIF to WebP without losing image quality?
+
Upload your JFIF file, then our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for WebP output. For lossless formats (PNG, TIFF, BMP) we preserve every pixel; for lossy formats (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download.
Can I get transparency once the image is WebP?
+
The WebP format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JFIF has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel WebP provides has something to store. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than an equivalent JPG and far smaller than an animated GIF, with universal browser support since 2020.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JFIF to WebP?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the WebP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of JFIF files to WebP at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution and dimensions will my WebP file have?
+
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your WebP output has the same pixel dimensions as the source JFIF. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the WebP file get without visible artifacts?
+
For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source JFIF with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my JFIF files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded JFIF files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted WebP file bigger / smaller than I expected?
+
A JFIF file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless WebP (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless JFIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
