JFIF to BMP Conversion FAQ
How do I convert JFIF to BMP without losing image quality?
+
Upload your JFIF file, then our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for BMP output. For lossless formats (PNG, TIFF, BMP) we preserve every pixel; for lossy formats (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download.
Does converting JFIF to BMP restore the quality that was lost?
+
No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JFIF are ordinary pixel data now, and BMP preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. BMP needs no decoder library at all, so it remains the safe interchange format for embedded systems and legacy Windows tooling. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JFIF to BMP?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the BMP. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of JFIF files to BMP at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution and dimensions will my BMP file have?
+
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your BMP output has the same pixel dimensions as the source JFIF. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the BMP file get without visible artifacts?
+
For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source JFIF with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my JFIF files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded JFIF files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted BMP file bigger / smaller than I expected?
+
A JFIF file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless BMP (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless JFIF often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
