If you need them, extract the subtitles to an .srt file with a desktop tool such as ffmpeg or MKVToolNix before converting, and load that file alongside the MPG in your player. MPG inherits every MPEG-2 limitation — heavy bitrate, interlacing, no soft subtitles — plus the confusion of two extensions for one format.
Why would I convert MOV to an older format like MPG?
