How do I convert BMP to TIFF without losing image quality?

Can I get transparency once the image is TIFF?

The TIFF format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A BMP has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel TIFF provides has something to store. TIFF handles CMYK, 16-bit depth, embedded ICC profiles and multi-page documents, which is exactly what print and archival workflows require.
What about EXIF metadata when converting BMP to TIFF?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the TIFF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of BMP files to TIFF at once?

What resolution and dimensions will my TIFF file have?

Default behaviour is 1:1 — your TIFF output has the same pixel dimensions as the source BMP. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the TIFF file get without visible artifacts?

For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source BMP with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my BMP files private during conversion?

Yes. Uploaded BMP files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted TIFF file bigger / smaller than I expected?

A BMP file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless TIFF (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless BMP often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
