How do I convert BMP to PSD without losing image quality?

Can I get transparency once the image is PSD?

The PSD format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A BMP has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PSD provides has something to store. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.

What about EXIF metadata when converting BMP to PSD?

In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PSD. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.

Can I batch-convert hundreds of BMP files to PSD at once?

What resolution and dimensions will my PSD file have?

Default behaviour is 1:1 — your PSD output has the same pixel dimensions as the source BMP. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.

How small can the PSD file get without visible artifacts?

For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source BMP with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.

Are my BMP files private during conversion?

Why is my converted PSD file bigger / smaller than I expected?

A BMP file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless PSD (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless BMP often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
