BMP to JFIF Conversion FAQ
How do I convert BMP to JFIF without losing image quality?
+
Upload your BMP file, then our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for JFIF output. For lossless formats (PNG, TIFF, BMP) we preserve every pixel; for lossy formats (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download.
How much quality will I lose going from BMP to JFIF?
+
At quality 80-85 the difference is invisible at normal viewing distance and the file typically drops by 60-80%. The catch is that it is one-way: re-saving the JFIF repeatedly compounds the artefacts each time. Keep the BMP as the master and regenerate the JFIF from it whenever you need a new size. BMP needs no decoder library at all, so it remains the safe interchange format for embedded systems and legacy Windows tooling. The image data is ordinary JPEG; JFIF just defines the density and thumbnail fields around it, so a .jfif and a .jpg are the same picture.
What about EXIF metadata when converting BMP to JFIF?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the JFIF. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of BMP files to JFIF at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution and dimensions will my JFIF file have?
+
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your JFIF output has the same pixel dimensions as the source BMP. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the JFIF file get without visible artifacts?
+
For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source BMP with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my BMP files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded BMP files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
Why is my converted JFIF file bigger / smaller than I expected?
+
A BMP file with strong compression (e.g. heavily lossy JPG) often grows when re-encoded to a lossless JFIF (PNG, TIFF), and a high-bitrate lossless BMP often shrinks dramatically when going to JPG / WebP. The ratio depends on image content (photos compress differently from line art).
