Will the HTML look formatted if the MD had no formatting?

It will look plain, because there is nothing to recover. An MD carries no styling information, so the converter applies a clean default — a readable body font, sensible margins, paragraphs separated where blank lines were. Headings are inferred where the source used a recognisable convention, and everything else arrives as body text. MD is Markdown, John Gruber’s 2004 plain-text syntax for writing structured documents that stay readable as source.

What happens to CSS, images and links in the HTML?

Stylesheets are resolved and applied before conversion rather than carried across, because only HTML has a separate presentation layer. Images referenced by relative path are fetched and embedded so the output is self-contained; images behind authentication or JavaScript rendering will not be. Absolute links stay clickable. Markdown is plain text with lightweight conventions — hashes for headings, asterisks for emphasis, hyphens for lists.

Which Markdown dialect does this conversion use?
