MKV to WebP Conversion FAQ
How do I convert an MKV file to WebP?
+
Upload your MKV file using the picker above and the converter detects the source type and runs the MKV → WebP pipeline. The result downloads automatically when conversion completes; no account needed for one-off conversions.
Which frame of the MKV do I actually get as a WebP?
+
The one you point at, not just the first. A timestamp picks a single moment out of the MKV; an interval setting walks the whole video and returns one WebP per step, delivered as a ZIP. The default grabs a frame a few seconds in rather than at 00:00, because the opening frame of a video is very often black. MKV is Matroska, an open container designed in 2002 with no licensing restrictions and no ceiling on what it can hold.
Does the WebP output support transparency?
+
The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the WebP later without changing format again. WebP is typically 25-35% smaller than an equivalent JPG and far smaller than an animated GIF, with universal browser support since 2020.
What quality setting should I use for the WebP output?
+
Quality 85 is the sensible default and the one used unless you change it — visually indistinguishable from the source at normal viewing distance, at roughly a fifth of the size of a lossless equivalent. Push to 95 for anything that will be edited or printed, and drop to 70 for thumbnails where size dominates. WebP offers both lossy and lossless modes, with alpha transparency and animation available in either.
Is the MKV to WebP converter free?
+
Yes — basic MKV → WebP conversion is free with no registration. Premium adds higher per-file size limits, more parallel batch workers, and removes ads.
How big an MKV file can I convert to WebP?
+
Free accounts: up to 100 MB per MKV file. Premium: typically 1 GB per file, depending on the MKV source type. Very large files are split into chunks server-side when the WebP format allows.
Will conversion change the content of my MKV?
+
Conversion preserves all information that both MKV and WebP can represent. Format-specific features that the WebP format doesn't support (e.g. vector data in raster output, formulas in plain-text output) are rasterized or stripped — see the format-specific notes on the result page.
Can I convert many MKV files to WebP at once?
+
Yes — drop multiple MKV files into the upload zone and they are queued in parallel. Premium has more parallel workers; on a 50-file batch this is the difference between minutes and seconds.
Does the MKV to WebP converter work on phones and tablets?
+
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.
Which browsers does the MKV to WebP converter support?
+
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (15+), Edge, and Opera. The converter uses standard `<input type="file">` upload — no WebAssembly or PWA dependencies — so even older browsers work.
Are my MKV files kept private?
+
Yes — uploaded MKV files are processed in isolated workers and deleted within minutes. We never view, retain, or share content. See /privacy/ for the data-retention window.
What if the WebP download doesn't start automatically?
+
Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network fails mid-download, you can re-trigger from the result page without re-uploading the MKV.
