Is the RTF to MD converter free?

Will the MD open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the RTF would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for MD and none for RTF, so an RTF link forces a download while an MD renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. Markdown is the lingua franca of documentation, README files, static site generators and note-taking apps, and it diffs cleanly in git.
Why would I use RTF rather than a modern document format?

Because it opens in essentially everything, including software from the early nineties, and because it is plain readable text underneath so it survives systems that mangle binary attachments. The trade is size and features: an RTF is several times larger than the equivalent XML package and cannot carry tracked changes, comments or complex tables.
How big an RTF file can I convert to MD?

Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I convert many RTF files to MD at once?

Which browsers does the RTF to MD converter support?

Are my RTF files kept private?

Yes. Uploaded RTF files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and results are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
What if the MD download doesn't start automatically?

Disable any pop-up blocker, then click the download button manually. The result link stays active for 24 hours, so if your network fails mid-download, you can re-trigger from the result page without re-uploading the RTF.
How long does RTF to MD conversion take?

It depends on the size and length of the file. Small documents and images are usually ready quickly. Long videos take the longest, because most video conversions re-encode every frame.
