Is the DOC to PNG converter free?

Is the older binary Office format still a safe bet?

It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
Will the PNG open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the DOC would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for PNG and none for DOC, so a DOC link forces a download while a PNG renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Does the PNG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again.
How big will the PNG files be?

Larger than you might expect, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Can I convert only part of the DOC instead of all of it?

No. There is no page setting for DOC files, so every page is rendered as its own PNG and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the DOC to PDF and then use the PDF to PNG converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Do I get one image per page?

Yes. Each page renders as its own PNG file, numbered in page order, so a one-page document gives a single PNG and a longer one gives one image per page.
