Is this a document converter or a table extractor?

A table extractor. The converter reads your DOC, finds the tables inside it, and writes those out as XLSX. Everything that is not a table - body text, headings, images - does not come across, because there is no sensible way to lay prose out in spreadsheet cells.
Why did my DOC to XLSX conversion return an error?

The most common reason is that the DOC contains no tables. Because this conversion works by extracting tables, a file with none has nothing to put in the XLSX. Rather than return an empty spreadsheet, the converter refuses and tells you to use a file with at least one table.
Can I get the whole DOC, text included, into the XLSX?

Not through this tool, and not through any tool honestly: a spreadsheet is a grid of cells, so continuous prose has nowhere to go. Use a document target (DOCX, ODT, TXT) when you want the whole DOC; use XLSX when you want its tables.
Are tables detected reliably?

In a DOCX or DOC, yes - the table is a genuine object in the file and is read as-is. In a PDF there is no table object to read, so detection works from ruled borders and consistent column alignment across each page, which is accurate for ordinary reports and weaker on unusual layouts.
Does it extract every table or only the first one?

Every one. The full DOC is scanned and each table found is written into the XLSX; nothing is skipped because it appears late in the document.
Does the DOC to XLSX converter run OCR?

Not on this path. It reads the text layer of the DOC; if that layer is missing - as in a photographed or scanned page - there is nothing to extract. Convert the scan to a searchable document first, then come back for the XLSX.
Will my XLSX look like the table in the DOC?

It will hold the same values in the same rows and columns, but not the same styling. Colours, fonts and borders are dropped and merged cells are flattened out; the point of the XLSX is the data, which you can then format however you like.
Why was I told to use .xlsx instead of .xls?

Because the legacy .xls format physically cannot hold the table: it is capped at 256 columns and 65,536 rows. Rather than truncate your data silently, the converter names the limit you hit and points you at .xlsx, which has room for about a million rows.
Is XLSX the right target for my DOC?

It is if the DOC is mostly tables and you intend to work with the values. It is not if you want to read or edit the document, in which case DOCX, ODT, RTF or TXT is the conversion you are looking for.
Do I need an account to convert DOC to XLSX?

No. The conversion runs without registration and the XLSX downloads as soon as it is ready. Upgrading raises the file-size ceiling and the number of files you can push through at once.
How do I convert a folder of DOC files to XLSX?

What happens to my DOC after the XLSX is generated?
