Why does my EPUB file refuse to convert?

DRM, in almost every case. A protected EPUB is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. EPUB has no fixed pagination, so page numbers are meaningless, and complex layout — tables, equations, multi-column — degrades badly.

Can I edit the HTML and reconvert it back to ebook?

Yes for Word, Markdown and plain text: edit and save the HTML, then convert it back with the matching converter on this site, for example /docx-epub/ for a Word file. RTF and HTML have no converter back to EPUB here, so save the file as DOCX in your word processor first.

Why is my HTML formatting different from how the EPUB looked on Kindle?

Kindle / Kobo apply their own reader CSS on top of the EPUB's embedded styles. The HTML we produce reflects the EPUB's actual encoded styling, not the reader's overrides. That's usually what you want for editing — it shows what the publisher intended.

Is the EPUB file private during HTML conversion?
