Will the Markdown be properly editable?

Yes — that is the point of converting out of EPUB. The output opens as a real document with live paragraphs, styles and tables rather than a frozen page image, so you can edit it directly instead of retyping. Heavily designed source layouts convert less cleanly than plain prose, so expect to tidy spacing on anything built on a complex grid. The long form is what Jekyll, Hugo and several documentation pipelines look for by default, so it fits straight into those builds.
Will the Markdown open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the EPUB would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for Markdown and none for EPUB, so an EPUB link forces a download while a Markdown renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application.
Why does my EPUB file refuse to convert?

DRM, in almost every case. A protected EPUB is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. EPUB has no fixed pagination, so page numbers are meaningless, and complex layout — tables, equations, multi-column — degrades badly.
Can I edit the Markdown and reconvert it back to ebook?

Yes for Word, Markdown and plain text: edit and save the Markdown, then convert it back with the matching converter on this site, for example /docx-epub/ for a Word file. RTF and HTML have no converter back to EPUB here, so save the file as DOCX in your word processor first.
Why is my Markdown formatting different from how the EPUB looked on Kindle?

Kindle / Kobo apply their own reader CSS on top of the EPUB's embedded styles. The Markdown we produce reflects the EPUB's actual encoded styling, not the reader's overrides. That's usually what you want for editing — it shows what the publisher intended.
Is the EPUB file private during Markdown conversion?

Yes. Nobody reviews the file, and uploaded EPUB files are never used to train any model, which matters for unpublished manuscripts. The upload and the Markdown are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion.
