Convert DOC to PPTX

No — this conversion pins the layout. A DOC adapts its line breaks to whatever width and font size the reader is using; the PPTX fixes page geometry at conversion time, so on a phone you get the whole page scaled down rather than text rewrapped to the screen. That is the right trade when the layout must not move, and the wrong one when the file is for reading on a small device. DOC is still the format a great many corporate templates, legal precedents and government forms are stored in. PPTX is the Office Open XML presentation format PowerPoint has used by default since 2007.

It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. PPTX animations, transitions and embedded fonts are the first things to break when it is opened outside PowerPoint.

A ZIP archive of XML parts, together with the images and fonts those parts refer to. That is why one barely shrinks when it is archived, why a damaged one can sometimes be partly recovered instead of being a total loss, and why software that is not the original application can open it at all — the layout was published rather than reverse-engineered. It is also why the extension matters more than it looks: rename it and the tools that recognise it by name stop opening it, though not a byte inside has changed.

Each slide becomes a static page showing its final state, so anything that was revealed progressively appears all at once. Speaker notes are preserved separately wherever the target has a field for them.
