What does the EPUB to SVG converter produce?

It lays out the whole EPUB as pages, the way the PDF version of the book would look, and turns every page into its own SVG image, starting with the cover when the book has one. A full book therefore gives one image per page, not just the cover. This page has no settings for choosing pages, size or quality.
Will the SVG open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the EPUB would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for SVG and none for EPUB, so an EPUB link forces a download while an SVG renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. SVG renders perfectly at any size, stays editable, is searchable and diffable as plain text, and is usually a fraction of the size of an equivalent PNG.
How are the pages of a reflowable book turned into fixed images?

By rendering them at a chosen page size first, because a reflowable book has no inherent pages — the reader creates them from screen width and font size. The converter picks a standard page geometry, lays the text out onto it, and renders each resulting page as one image. Change the page size and you get a different number of images from the same book.
Does the SVG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the SVG later without changing format again.
How big will the SVG files be?

Larger than you might expect, because SVG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. An SVG stores shapes as mathematical paths and text as text, not as pixels, so it is a document rather than a raster grid.
Why does my EPUB file refuse to convert?

DRM, in almost every case. A protected EPUB is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. EPUB has no fixed pagination, so page numbers are meaningless, and complex layout — tables, equations, multi-column — degrades badly.
Can I convert only part of the EPUB instead of all of it?

No. There is no page setting for EPUB files, so every page is rendered as its own SVG and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the EPUB to PDF and then use the PDF to SVG converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Can I render every page of the EPUB as an SVG?

Yes, every page is converted by default. The book is laid out on US Letter pages first, and each page becomes a separate SVG, listed as its own download. A paid plan adds one ZIP download with all the pages.
At what resolution does the extracted SVG come out?

The resolution is fixed. As JPG or PNG, each page comes out 1275 by 1650 pixels, which is a US Letter page at 150 DPI, and other image formats can come out at a different size. The cover is drawn onto a page rather than copied out of the EPUB, so it is not delivered at its original resolution.
Will the SVG keep the EPUB cover color profile?

No. Pages, the cover included, are rendered as standard RGB images, and a color profile attached to the original cover picture is not carried over. epub.to has no CMYK conversion, so prepare print colors in an image editor.
Can I convert only some pages of the EPUB to SVG?

Why is my extracted SVG cover blurry or low-res?

The cover is drawn onto a page and then turned into an image at a fixed resolution, so it is not a copy of the original cover file. A small cover picture in the EPUB also looks soft once it is enlarged to fill the page. For a sharp cover, use the original artwork, or open the EPUB in an ebook editor such as Calibre and save the cover image from there.
