No — this conversion pins the layout. A MOBI adapts its line breaks to whatever width and font size the reader is using; the PDF fixes page geometry at conversion time, so on a phone you get the whole page scaled down rather than text rewrapped to the screen. That is the right trade when the layout must not move, and the wrong one when the file is for reading on a small device. MOBI is readable by every Kindle ever made, including the earliest hardware that never learned any newer format. PDF is Adobe’s Portable Document Format from 1993, standardised as ISO 32000 and now the universal fixed-layout document.

Yes, and the MOBI would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for PDF and none for MOBI, so a MOBI link forces a download while a PDF renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. A PDF looks byte-for-byte identical on every machine and every printer, which is why contracts, invoices and academic papers all live in it.

DRM, in almost every case. A protected MOBI is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI for new publishing in 2022, and the format cannot express modern CSS, embedded fonts or fixed layout.

It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.

The PDF uses US Letter pages with standard margins set by the converter. There are no settings for page size, margins or font size on this page. If you need another layout, convert the MOBI to DOCX here, change the page setup in a word processor, and then convert that document to PDF.

Yes. Fonts embedded in the MOBI are embedded in the PDF as font subsets, so the text renders the same in every PDF viewer. Text that does not use an embedded font is set in a standard serif font such as DejaVu Serif.

Pictures in the MOBI are placed in the PDF at the same point in the text. The converter has no image quality setting. If the finished PDF is too large, run it through /pdf-compress/ to shrink it.

Not as it comes out. The PDF is an ordinary RGB document on US Letter pages with no bleed, and the converter has no print settings such as CMYK, bleed or trim size. It prints well on a home or office printer, but a commercial print run needs the file prepared in a layout program or by the print shop.

Each chapter starts on a new page, so the last page of a chapter can be partly empty, but the converter does not insert blank pages before chapters the way printed books do. A fully blank page usually comes from an empty section or a forced page break inside the MOBI itself. There is no setting that changes how chapters start.

The title and author stored in the MOBI are written into the PDF document properties, which PDF readers show in their document information panel. Other details such as the ISBN are not carried over. When the MOBI has a cover image, it becomes the first page of the PDF.
