Yes — that is the point of converting out of MOBI. The output opens as a real document with live paragraphs, styles and tables rather than a frozen page image, so you can edit it directly instead of retyping. Heavily designed source layouts convert less cleanly than plain prose, so expect to tidy spacing on anything built on a complex grid. DOC is still the format a great many corporate templates, legal precedents and government forms are stored in.

It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. DOC is undocumented in practice, opaque to modern tooling, and Microsoft itself has been trying to retire it since 2007.

DRM, in almost every case. A protected MOBI is encrypted and tied to an account, and no converter can decrypt it — ours included. Files you created yourself, or bought from a DRM-free store, convert without any trouble at all. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI for new publishing in 2022, and the format cannot express modern CSS, embedded fonts or fixed layout.

Yes for Word, Markdown and plain text: edit and save the DOC, then convert it back with the matching converter on this site, for example /docx-epub/ for a Word file. RTF and HTML have no converter back to EPUB here, so save the file as DOCX in your word processor first.

Kindle / Kobo apply their own reader CSS on top of the MOBI's embedded styles. The DOC we produce reflects the MOBI's actual encoded styling, not the reader's overrides. That's usually what you want for editing — it shows what the publisher intended.

Yes. Nobody reviews the file, and uploaded MOBI files are never used to train any model, which matters for unpublished manuscripts. The upload and the DOC are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion.
