Convert PSD to GIF

They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because GIF has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the GIF strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.

It is converted to sRGB, because GIF has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original PSD rather than the GIF.

No pixel data, no. Both formats store the image without lossy compression, so the picture that comes out is identical to the one that went in and the conversion can be repeated indefinitely. What changes is file size, and which features travel — colour depth, embedded profiles, layers and animation are all supported unevenly between lossless formats. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency.

Transparency survives when going to PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF, or SVG. Converting to JPG flattens the alpha channel against a white background — if you need transparency, target a transparency-aware format instead of GIF.

Embedded ICC color profiles are read from the source PSD and re-attached to the GIF output where the format supports it (JPG, PNG, TIFF, WebP). Formats without profile support fall back to sRGB.

Camera EXIF (ISO, shutter, lens, GPS) is preserved by default during PSD → GIF conversion when both formats support metadata. Use the privacy option to strip metadata before download if you want to share images without geolocation.

Default behaviour is 1:1 — your GIF output has the same pixel dimensions as the source PSD. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.

For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source PSD with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
