JPG to PNG Conversion FAQ
How do I convert JPG to PNG without losing image quality?
+
Upload your JPG file, then our converter applies format-aware quality optimization for PNG output. For lossless formats (PNG, TIFF, BMP) we preserve every pixel; for lossy formats (JPG, WebP) you can tune the quality factor before download. JPG is the JPEG standard from 1992, served under the .jpg, .jpeg and .jfif extensions alike, and after three decades it is still the format most cameras and most websites use for photographs.
Can I get transparency once the image is PNG?
+
The PNG format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /image-removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PNG provides has something to store. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Does converting JPG to PNG restore the quality that was lost?
+
No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPG are ordinary pixel data now, and PNG preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. JPG has no transparency, degrades further every time it is re-saved, and produces visible blocking on flat colour and sharp text.
Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to PNG?
+
It is converted to sRGB, because PNG has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original JPG rather than the PNG. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
What about EXIF metadata when converting JPG to PNG?
+
In most conversions, camera EXIF fields such as the camera model and GPS position are not carried into the PNG. There is no setting on this page to keep or remove metadata, so check the result with a metadata viewer if it matters.
Can I batch-convert hundreds of JPG files to PNG at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What resolution and dimensions will my PNG file have?
+
Default behaviour is 1:1 — your PNG output has the same pixel dimensions as the source JPG. Use a separate /resize-image/ step after conversion if you need to downscale or upscale as part of the workflow.
How small can the PNG file get without visible artifacts?
+
For JPG / WebP, quality 75-85 typically gets the file 60-80% smaller than the source JPG with no visible difference at normal viewing distance. For lossless targets (PNG, TIFF), expect smaller savings — usually 5-30% via better deflate / LZW compression.
Are my JPG files private during conversion?
+
Yes. Uploaded JPG files are processed on our own servers and are never viewed or shared. Uploads and converted images are deleted automatically about 24 hours after conversion. The full privacy policy is at /privacy/.
