PSD to DOC Conversion FAQ

How do I convert a PSD file to DOC?
+
Upload your PSD file using the picker above and the converter detects the source type and runs the PSD → DOC pipeline. The result downloads automatically when conversion completes; no account needed for one-off conversions.
That is the main thing you gain. A PSD has fixed pages, so a small screen either shrinks the whole page or forces horizontal scrolling. The DOC stores text as text, so the reader re-wraps it to any screen width and font size. Multi-column layouts and large tables are where reflow struggles — those are the parts worth checking after conversion. DOC is still the format a great many corporate templates, legal precedents and government forms are stored in.
Yes — that is the point of converting out of PSD. The output opens as a real document with live paragraphs, styles and tables rather than a frozen page image, so you can edit it directly instead of retyping. Heavily designed source layouts convert less cleanly than plain prose, so expect to tidy spacing on anything built on a complex grid.
It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. DOC is undocumented in practice, opaque to modern tooling, and Microsoft itself has been trying to retire it since 2007.
Then the conversion produces a picture of the text rather than the text itself, and searching it finds nothing. Run /pdf-ocr/ to add a recognised text layer first; optical character recognition turns the scanned pixels into selectable, searchable characters that the conversion can then carry through properly.
They are flattened into one picture on the way in, in the order and at the opacities the file specifies, and there is no way back — a DOC has no concept of a layer stack, so what it receives is the composite. Hidden layers are dropped rather than merged, which is worth checking first if the file has old versions of an element switched off inside it. Keep the layered original alongside the document; it is the only copy that stays editable. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.
They are composited against the page, which is white by default, so a transparent background becomes a white one. If the image is meant to sit on a coloured page, set the matte colour before converting rather than trying to fix it afterwards in the document.
Yes — basic PSD → DOC conversion is free with no registration. Premium adds higher per-file size limits, more parallel batch workers, and removes ads.
Free accounts: up to 100 MB per PSD file. Premium: typically 1 GB per file, depending on the PSD source type. Very large files are split into chunks server-side when the DOC format allows.
Conversion preserves all information that both PSD and DOC can represent. Format-specific features that the DOC format doesn't support (e.g. vector data in raster output, formulas in plain-text output) are rasterized or stripped — see the format-specific notes on the result page.
Yes — drop multiple PSD files into the upload zone and they are queued in parallel. Premium has more parallel workers; on a 50-file batch this is the difference between minutes and seconds.
Yes — the UI is responsive and the conversion pipeline runs server-side, so mobile devices upload-then-download just like desktops. iOS and Android browser file pickers (camera roll, Files app) work end-to-end.

PSD

PSD (Photoshop Document) is the native file format for Adobe Photoshop. PSD files store layered images, allowing for non-destructive editing and saving design elements. They are crucial for publishing-grade graphic design and photo manipulation.

DOC

DOC files are Microsoft Word files that include rich text formatting, images, and tables.
